If Sampur Coal Power Abandoned Country Will Face Disaster in 2019?

CEB Engineers Union President, Athula Vanniyarachi has cautioned against abandoning Sampur coal power project. He said that the adverse environmental effect on using coal power is negligent. In the world, emission Co₂ (Carbon dioxide) is 2000 metric ton per year, but where as in Srilanka the emission is only 15 metric ton. When we take the cost of production of power under each category, we will be able to see the benefit of installing coal power plant. Comparative cost of power production per unit is given below.

1. Coal Power              4rupees 50 cts

2. Windmill                  22 rupees

3. Oil                                 17 rupees

4. Water fall                   55 cts to 1.50 rupees

5. Solar power             23 rupees (buying price)
