Sri Lanka Tourist Earnings up, Slower Growth in Workers’ Remittances

Sri Lanka’s earnings from tourism increased while slower growth was seen in workers’ remittances in October 2016, the Central Bank said.
In the the first ten months of 2016 tourism earnings rose to 2,749.4 million dollars compared to 2,400.1 million in the same period of 2015, the Central Banks review of the Monetary Policy statement said. Earnings from tourism in October 2016 was 249.3 million dollars.
Workers’ remittances in October 2016 increased by 0.4 percent to 607.5 million US dollars, compared to the same period last year.
Cumulative inflows from workers’ remittances grew by 3.5 percent to 5,990 million US dollars in the Jan-Oct 2016 period.
