A Bill to Rename Divi Neguma to ‘Samurdhi’

The Divi Neguma (Amendment) Bill was presented to Parliament yesterday by Minister Gayantha Karunathilake on behalf of Social Empowerment and Welfare Minister S.B. Dissanayake. Purpose of this bill is to rename the Divi Neguma Act and certain provisions in it.

As per provisions in the bill  , the word Divi Neguma appearing wherever  in the Divi Neguma Act would be replaced with the word Samurdhi.
On  Parliament approving  the Bill, the Department of Divi Neguma would be renamed ‘’ Samurdhi Department’’ , the Divi Neguma National Council would be renamed the ‘’Samurdhi Development Council’’  and all Divi Neguma Regional Organizations would be renamed ‘’Samurdhi Regional Organizations’’.

Furthermore, the Divi Neguma Bank would be renamed the ‘’Samurdhi Bank ‘’and Divi Neguma Community Based Societies will be called Samurdhi Community Based Development Societies.
