Samurdhi  Unions  Stage Protest  Opposite to the Parliamentary Complex

Secretary of the Union Western Provincial Councillor Jagath Kumara said,  benefits received by Samurdhi beneficiaries have been curtailed at present despite claims that benefits will not be slashed. Further they demand  pension  to  Samurdhi officers Hence, they were compelled to stage protest campaign opposite to the Parliamentary complex.

However, President Maithripala Sirisena has categorically stated   that it is the intention of the government to allocate Samurdhi benefits to anyone who is eligible and denied reports of curtailing Samurdhi benefits.

Due to Samurdhi Union protest , Parliament road from  Parliament  junction was closed  creating  traffic congestion  in the area.  Motorists are advised to use alternative routes by police.
