Northern Provincial Council to Decide on 20th Amendment on 7th September

 The Northern Provincial Council yesterday unanimously decided to inform the Governor of the province, on Thursday (07), of its opposition to the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, to hold all Provincial Council  polls on the same day.
The final decision of the Northern Provincial Council with regard to the 20th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka will be issued on Thursday (07).
The draft was submitted to the Council by the Chairman, C. V. K. Sivagnanam, and subsequently debated upon yesterday (04).
The majority of the councillors had reportedly voiced opinion against the 20th Amendment.
The councilors will be discussing the matter with the Governor of the Northern Province before a final decision is made.
Chief Minister C. V. Vigneswaran previously made a statement saying that the Northern Provincial Council would not be backing the 20th Amendment.
He stated that the 20th Amendment aimed to vest Provincial Council powers with the Parliament.
