Mahinda Justified Issuing of Sil Cloth at Public Expense of 500 Million

Former President cum Kurunegala MP Mahinda Rajapakshe visited his former Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and former Director General of Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Srilanka (TRCSL), now in prison hospital serving 3 years rigorous imprisonment.
When journalist confronted him and questioned, whether he takes responsibility for the purchase and issue of sil cloth to Buddhist Clergies and Temples spending Rs. 500 million public funds, he responded saying that it was he who ordered to do it in the public interest. Further he said, that there was nothing wrong in doing so. Issuing of sil cloth had nothing to do with a Presidential elections. During questioning at one stage he lost his temper.
Observers say, issuing sil cloth from one’s earnings or out of his pocket is perfectly correct. But  taking public funds  and utilizing it is absolutely wrong.
