Cabinet Approved  to Amend Pradeshiya Sabhas Act

According to current  Local Authorities laws, Pradeshiya Sabhas or other governing authorities cannot undertake any development activities or welfare projects for the plantation sector people,  if the lands are owned by plantation companies. This matter was raised in various forums  by up country leaders.

Followed by a discussion Ministers Palani Digambaram, Mano Ganeshan, and Nuwara Eliya District MP M. Thilakaraj had with Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faizer Musthafa recently, a cabinet paper  was submitted  to amend Pradeshiya Sabhas  Act .

The Cabinet of Ministers has given the approval to amend the Pradeshiya Sabhas Act No 15 of 1987 to serve the plantation sector as well.
