Srilanka Enters into Cannabis Plantation

Having considered complaints made by   many Ayurvedic doctors that they don’t get good quality cannabis  for their ayurvedic  preparations and other relevant facts,  the Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne has proposed to plant cannabis  in a 100 acres (40hectare) land, which is expected to produce 25 tonnes a year.
This plantation  would be under military protection, and ensure a regular high quality supply. He further stated,  that the Government is expected to export the surplus from this proposed farm at Ingiriya, located 60 kilometres (37 miles) southeast of Colombo. He was informed  that there is high demand for cannabis  in the US and several other countries.
Cannabis is used by the pharmaceutical industry in the manufacture of tranquilisers and painkillers.”
Hence,  Srilanka  expects to export surplus cannabis  from this plantation to foreign countries.
