Policemen Granted Bail on Jaffna University Students Shooting
The shooting of two Jaffna University students occurred at around 11.30 p.m. on October 20, 2016 , when policemen opened fire at the two students reported to have ignored to stop the orders of the police at a police checkpoint.
In the wake of the incident officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Police were sent to Jaffna where they took five policemen into custody.
The two students – Vijayakumar Sulakshan (24) and Nadarajah Gajan (23), third-year students at the University of Jaffna were returning home after an event.
Five policemen indicted and arrested for involvement in the shooting of two Jaffna University students were today granted bail.
