Migrant Worker’s Children Receives  Scholarships Worth Rs 56 M

Minister of Justice and Foreign Employment, Thalatha Athukorala  said that scholarship programme was introduced as from the year 1996 for children of parents who have left for work overseas after registering with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.
In this series, a total of Rs 56 million has been allocated to provide scholarships to 2,885 children of migrant workers,  who leave for jobs this year.
 Accordingly, 869 children who have passed the Grade five scholarship will be provided Rs 15,000 each while 1,652 children  who have got through the O/L examination will receive Rs 20,000 each,  while 364 children who have secured university admission will receive Rs 30,000 each.
 The highest number of scholarship recipients is from Gampaha in the Western Province numbering to 307 children.
