Blue Whale Challenge: Schools On Alert, Teachers Keep Watch On Students

Schools are on alert after Karan’s parents claimed that he died while performing the tasks of the Blue Whale game. As the parents-teacher meeting at Karan’s school — DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 — went on till late into Monday evening after the incident, other school managements, too, swung into action.
Vibha Ray, principal of the school at Sector 8, said regularly, four teachers at the gate would check if any student of this class was carrying a mobile phone and accordingly, parents were informed. “One counsellor is given for the parenting session of a few students. Such sessions for each student were there twice a month. Karan also didn’t show up much,” she added.
After Karan’s parents informed the school about the game, schoolteachers even checked the notebooks of his fellow classmates to see if anyone had made such diagrams as Karan did.
Principal of The Gurukul, Sector 20, Harsimran Kaur, said they were not discussing it with the students as they do not want them to look for the game out of curiosity.
Messages have been sent out to parents to keep a watch on what games their children were playing. “We are urging the parents to monitor what games their wards are playing on the mobile. At the school as well, if we get any information about any child even talking about this deadly game, the counsellor is immediately asked to counsel that child and the child’s parents are alerted, too. We dread anyone trying it out even out of curiosity or as a challenge,” said Harsimran.
To sensitise parents, St John’s High School at Sector 26 had even sent out a video to all the parents telling them about the deadly game. Kavita Das, the principal, said they had been issuing advisories to parents about the game.
Santosh Bhandari, principal, Sky World School, Sector 21, Panchkula, and Sudha Babbar, principal, Jainendra Public School, Sector 1, said they have been holding one-to-one interaction with the students but talking about the game only with the parents. “We have told the parents to observe the children,” Bhandari said.
