Donald Trump Says Manhattan Terror Suspect ‘Should Get Death Penalty’

US President Donald Trump said that the suspect in truck rampage that left eight people dead in lower Manhattan in New York City ‘should get death penalty’. “NYC terrorist was happy as he asked to hang ISIS flag in his hospital room. He killed 8 people, badly injured 12. SHOULD GET DEATH PENALTY!,” Trump tweeted Wednesday.
After the devastating attack that took place on Tuesday, Trump stepped up his demand for stricter immigration laws to curb the terror menace. The suspect identified as Sayfullo Saipov was shot in the abdomen by a police officer after he drove the rented truck on a bike path-walkway and hit bicyclist and pedestrians on the way.
The US president also asked the Congress to end a visa program that let the Uzbek suspect into the country. He said he might send him to Guantanamo Bay. “I’m going to ask Congress to immediately initiate work to get rid of this program,” Trump told reporters at the White House yesterday.
“We have to get much tougher,” he said. “We have to get much smarter. And we have to get much less politically correct. We’re so politically correct that we’re afraid to do anything,” Trump said.
According to a criminal complaint against the 29-year old Uzbek national, the man was inspired by ISIS video he watched on his cellphone and wanted to kill as many people as possible. Saipov who was living in New Jersey, has also been charged with providing material support to ISIS, violence and destruction of motor vehicles. The suspect has been charged with federal terrorism offenses in the Tuesday’s attack, being considered as New York’s deadliest terror attack since 9/11.
