Navin Against Mps Talking To Arjun Aloysius Of The Bond Scam Fame.

The Minister of Plantation Industries, Navin Dissanayake said, it is unethical for members of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) to engage in telephone conversations with Perpetual Treasuries Limited owner, Arjun Aloysius, “If Aloysius called me and if I was a member of the COPE, I would have told him on the very first occasion that it is unethical for me to talk to him. I would have said this because I was a member of a committee that was investigating the actions of Perpetual Treasuries Limited. I know him personally, but that is what I would have done,” he said, addressing a press conference yesterday (21).
Commenting on the revelations that a number of members of the COPE had conversed with Aloysius, Dissanayake said that there was a clear conflict of interest. “It is not ethical to talk to Aloysius,” he said.
Dissanayake added that he agreed with the view that all the names of the MPs who were in contact with Aloysius should be revealed and that he is perplexed as to why the names of only a few MPs were leaked to the media.
“As the United National Party we agree that sometimes there is a need for course correction. That is what the Prime Minister said at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing the Central Bank Treasury Bonds auctions on 20 November. Many of us went with him to the PCoI because we needed to show that we are with the Prime Minister and that the Party was of one opinion,” he said.
