Conduct LG Election according to previous Delimitation Committee report – PAFFREL
Executive Director of PAFFREL, an election monitoring body the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections has called to conduct the Local Government Election according to the report previously submitted by the delimitation committee.
Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said, despite court of appeal issued an interim order till 4th December to hold implementation of delimitation gazette notice (2006/44) , action must be taken to provide justice to the public, 15 million people to exercise their franchise..
However he said the group believes that on the 4th of December, justice will be served to all through the intervention of intermediaries including PAFFREL.
He stated PAFFREL believes that the Elections Commission will consider the reports of previous committees, without considering the report issued by the committee headed by Asoka Peiris.
Rohana Hettiarachchi also noted the youth must be granted the opportunity to not only vote at elections, but also to contest the election. But unfortunately, the youth quota for the Local Government Election has been abandoned adding therefore, PAFFREL requests political parties to allow youth to contest at the Local Government Election.
