UNP & SLFP Conspiracy To Postpone The LG Elections – Vijitha Herath

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) propaganda secretary Vijitha Herath addressing the media said, there is a conspiracy hatched by UNP and SLFP to postpone the LG Elections. The SLFP remains divided benefiting the UNP. They knew very well that the SLFP cannot win the election. Hence, UNP and SLFP got together and adopting postponing tactics. The development what we see today is as a result of this joint conspiracy. If both parties can get together and get the budget passed with majority in parliament, why can’t they get together to take appropriate steps to conduct the LG elections early? he questioned.
Meanwhile, UPFA Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said that the UPFA is always take the position of conducting election as early as possible and steps will be taken towards it.
In the meantime JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake speaking in parliament yesterday (22) said, that the government is deliberately taking steps to postpone the LG elections. He further said, now the court has issued interim order on a writ filed on 15th Nov.2017, taking a final decision on 4th December is remote. Thereafter, the court  will declare vacation. Then January comes and Election Commission needs time frame to call nominations and finalize the list before calling elections. Hence, no one can correctly predict exactly on which month the LG election will be held.  Uncertainties will continue in this manner regarding   local government election, he concluded.
