Comments Made By Politicians Regarding Refusal By A Minister Of NPC To Hoist National Flag

One of the NPC ministers refused to hoist the National Flag during an official function held in the North recently. NPC Chief Minister C.Vickneswaren  was the first person , who condemned  and chastised him.

NPC Governor Reginald Cooray has  sought the advice of the Attorney General to take appropriate steps.

The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Podujana Front Professor GL Peiris says action should be taken against any public representative who does not accept the national flag.Further,  he  said the responsibility of protecting the country’s flag is vested with the country’s Executive President.

In the meantime Minister Premadasa noted a public representative in the Northern Province has stated that he cannot hoist the national flag claiming he does not accept the flag.He questioned as to how a citizen of the country refused to accept the national Flag and the national anthem. Minister Sajith Premadasa says individuals who do accept the national flag should be denied citizenship. He made these observations while speaking at a function in Hambantota.
