Developing and Promoting Handicraft Industry in Srilanka – Rishad

Due to abnormal situation prevailed in the country in the last two years period, handicraft industry declined and faced disaster. As from the year 1990 the industry experienced several reversals. However, several state entrepreneurs came forward to take the challenge and managed to restore it. Today people who adopted handicraft industry is earning good profit.  President Maithreepala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe have jointly introduced a project to promote and develop handicraft industry in Srilanka. Even my Ministry too is striving hard to promote and develop handicraft industry said, Minister of Industries and Commerce, Rishad Badiutheen, while inaugurating and participating in “Industrial Handicraft Exhibition and Reward Awarding Ceremony” called “Ran Salu” held at Rajagiriya Handicraft Training Institute. Along with the Minister several high profile handicraft industrialists and other people engaged in handicraft participated and made their contributions.
Minister thanked the handicraft industry manufacturers and those adopted handicraft industry for their contribution towards it’s’ development.
At this event, to mark the   105th Year  of Establishing Handicraft  Training Institute, as an honour the department of postal services released a  1st day stamp. Today handicrafts produced in Srilanka fetches good market and the industry is giving a good return. Revenue is earned from people, who purchase these handicrafts. The other revenue source is from tourists visiting Srilanka. Central and Southern Provinces are in the forefront in developing handicraft industry, he concluded.
