Commuters Inconvenienced by Several Trains Being Cancelled

The train strike launched by engine drivers and train guards at mid-night last night continues today(Jan.24). The strike was launched over four demands, including the service period of contract- based train engine drivers not being extended.
The railway control room said that as a consequence of the strike, this morning’ s run of nine trains from Colombo Fort, along with “Muthu Kumari”  which runs from Chilaw to Colombo Fort has been cancelled.
The ‘Yal Devi’ scheduled to leave Colombo Fort this morning and the trains bound for Talai Mannar and Batticaloa have also been cancelled. However, the control room said that in spite of the strike, trains coming in from outstation locations were scheduled to arrive in Colombo Fort as per the regular schedule.
