To Extend or Not to Extend State of Emergency Final Decision to be Taken Today

The State of Emergency was declared following a special discussion with heads of security forces in the country after the recent disturbances in Kandy which is brought under control now.

The Secretary to the President Austin Fernando said although the State of Emergency was declared for 10 days, it was extended for a few  additional days due to the President having travelled to Japan.

So, the final decision is expected to be taken after President returns to the Island today.
