Weapons Recovered From a Jeep in Pada Yathra (Walk by foot) & Maithree Gunaratne Arrested

Organization formed to protect the United National Party and National Freedom Front jointly organized a Pada Yathra from Kandy toColombo under the theme‘We will defeat autocratic friends”. The aim of these two fronts is to gather support for the no confidence motion against the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.

As scheduled the Pada Yathra commenced from Kandy. Apart from people vehicles too joined the Pada Yathra.  While the procession was proceeding, Kadugannawa and Peradeniya Police jointly raided the vehicles in the procession and did a search. In one of the jeeps, police reported to have recovered two guns and 98 wooden poles.

Leader of the United National Freedom Front MaithriGunaratne has been arrested by Police for the possession of two illegal firearms in Kadugannawa.

 Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police RuwanGunasekara said that as MaithriGunaratne failed to produce the licenses for the two firearms, he was arrested .

The suspect was scheduled to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court on .Saturday (31)

The Kadugannawa Police has launched further investigations into the incident.
