In Basil’s Case Stay Order Extended Till 18th

A case was filed against Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa by the Attorney General for misappropriating state funds amounting to 2,991 million rupees during the 2015 Presidential Election to distribute roofing sheets.
Accordingly, Former Subject Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Former Secretary of the Divi Neguma Department Nihal Jayathilake were named as defendants in the case. The other defendants include Former Director of the Divi Neguma Department Kithsiri Ranawaka and Deputy Director General Bandula Thialakasiri.
Earlier a stay order was issued. This case was taken for hearing before Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulathunga today. The High Court has ordered to extend the stay order till the 18th of May.
The order was issued when the petition was taken up for hearing before Chairman of the Court of Appeal Preethi Padman Surasena.
The Chairman requested the petition to be taken up for hearing before a panel of Judges excluding him.
