Private Bus Operators to Increase Bus Fares?
The revision of fuel prices imposed yesterday is currently in effect at both Ceylon Petroleum Cooperation and Lanka Indian Oil Corporation operated filling stations.
With the increase in fuel prices transportation services are expected to revise fares in the near future.
The Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Operators Association Gemunu Wijeratne said discussions will be held with representatives of the Association to consider on increasing bus fares in the near future.
The Chairman of the All Island Private Bus Owners Federation Anjana Priyanjith said talks will be held with other bus unions and will subsequently make a request to the government to permit bus fare increase.
Deputy Minister of Transport Ashoka Abeysinghe said, it is impractical to increase bus fares when the annual bus fare revision is set to take place on the 1st of July.
