Latest Bus Fare Revision before the Cabinet Next Week

The bus unions were planning to stage a strike from midnight yesterday against the fare revision of 6.56% approved by the Cabinet on last Tuesday. The Deputy Minister of Transport has called  private bus owners unions for a discussion at the eleventh hour.
During a discussion held last evening (May 16) between the Deputy Minister of Transport Ashok Abeysinghe and  the private bus owners union,  it was decided to revise the bus fares by 12.5% and the minimum bus fare to Rs. 12 subject to cabinet approval and the strike called off.
The Deputy Minister of Transport Ashok Abeysinghe says the Cabinet paper on bus fare revision will be submitted to Cabinetnext Tuesday.
