The cabinet paper containing the proposals to increase the bus fares by 12.5% is scheduled to be tabled before the Cabinet of Ministers today.
After bus operators unions rejected the government’s proposal to increase the bus fares by 6.5%, discussion was held with them. Bus operators have also threatened to launch a trade union action rejecting the previous proposal by the government. On agreement reached to increase the bus fare by 12,5% and to raise the minimum fare from Rs10 to Rs12, they called off their proposed strike.
Several representatives of Bus operators associations said, if the proposal to increase the bus fares by 12.5% is rejected by the Cabinet they will immediately resort to the planned trade union action from midnight today.
