Sil Cloth Famed Lalith Weeratunga & Anusha Palpita’s Appeal Fixed For Hearing on 26th November
Former President’s Secretary cum Chairman of TRC Lalith Weeratunga and former Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Director General Anusha Palpita were charged in the high Court for misusing state funds of 650 million to buy and distribute sil cloths in Pansalas during Presidential election.
At the end of the trial High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga sentenced both of them with 3 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed fines.
Last year they appealed against the verdict stating that the judgment is against the law of the land and prayed to nullify the sentence and cancel the fines imposed. They were freed until hearing the case and a verdict given by the Appeal Court.
When the case was taken for inquiry today ,the appeal court Bench comprising Deepali Wijesundara and Achala Wengappuli ordered both parties to make their written submission on or before 5th September and fixed for hear the case on 26th November 2018.
