Health Ministry denies reports that heart surgeries at Karapitiya Hospital have been halted

The Health Ministry has denied a report published in a national newspaper that heart surgeries at the Karapitiya Hospital have been halted.

Issuing a statement, the Health Services Director General, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that the Director of the Karapitiya Hospital has informed that not a single surgery has been suspended at the hospital. He has also informed that surgeries come to a halt, only if there is a delay in air conditioning activities in the Operating Theatre.

Tenders have been called for, to effect repairs to the Air Conditioning network at the Operating Theatre of the Karapitiya Hospital.

The Tender Board of the Health Ministry has been notified to take a decision as the prices have gone beyond the limits. This has been done under Government regulations. An institution is expected to be entrusted the repair of the Air Conditioning network in the next few days after a decision is taken by the Ministry’s Tender Board.
