UN concerned over child sexual exploitation

(FASTNEWS|COLOMBO) – A United Nations committee has raised concerns over the alleged sexual exploitation of children in Sri Lanka.

Issuing a statement the committee stressed on the reportedly high prevalence of alleged sexual exploitation of children, including boys, in travel and tourism.

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said it is concerned that the liability of legal persons for the offences under the Optional Protocol has not been established or envisaged.

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child published its findings on the countries it examined during its latest session from May 13 to 31.

On Sri Lanka, the committee claimed in the light of article 3 (4) of the Optional Protocol, recommended that the State party, without delay, establish criminal, civil or administrative liability of legal persons for the offences covered by the Optional Protocol.
