Prisons Abandoned CCTV Project

In order to  stop  various  rumours  about happenings inside the Welikada prison ,  it had been planned to fix CCTV cameras inside the Welikada Remand and Magazine Prisons earlier .

Followed by this,  quotations were  called for fixing of these cameras.  The estimated cost of   fixing  CCTV cameras in prisons will cost  will be Rs 30 million.

Media Spokesman for Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya said as the cost is high  the decision to fix CCTV cameras within prison premises had been shelved. He said however arrangements would be made to fix CCTV cameras in front of the entrances to the three prisons.
