Susil Vishwa clash over National List

 

Prof. Vishwa Warnapala said that as the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) he will be dealing with election related tasks such as naming members for the National List.

He made this comment when he arrived at the Election Commissioner’s office yesterday (18) in response to a summons by Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya. Faizer Mustapha, who has been listed in the UPFA National List, and a group of lawyers accompanied him.

Former General Secretary of the UPFA Susil Premajayantha, who also arrived in response to a request by the Election Commissioner, said that Professor Warnapala has no legal or moral right to serve in the post of the General Secretary of the UPFA.

“What these people are doing by going to Court and obtaining enjoining orders should not be done. It was a decision which should have been discussed within the party.

They have misled the President and gone to Court and presented facts. This is the first time such a decision has been made in the history of politics in our country. As far as I know, I am still the General Secretary. It was not Vishwa Warnapala who handed in nominations, it was me. Therefore, I am the one who has the right to that nominations list” Premajayantha said. (CT)
