Court orders arrest of Pujith, Hemasiri

________________________________________________________

The Colombo High Court today revoked a court order to release IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando on bail, and ordered their arrest today (Oct 9).

Previously, IGP Jayasundara and Mr Fernando had been granted bail after the Attorney General (AG) had charged them over their failure to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne had released the suspects on bail, citing lack of evidence to support certain charges against the suspects, which included murder.

However, the AG had appealed against the decision through a revision petition at the Colombo High Court. The order concerning the petition was announced by High Court judge Vikum Kaluarachchi today.
