US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon is due to call on President Maithripala Sirisena today(16.12.2015) The discussion will take place at the Presidential Secretariat.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said defence and economic relations between the two countries will be on the agenda.
Shannon engaging in an observational tour of the Eastern Province yesterday said Sri Lanka is an example to the world.
He also commended steps taken by the government towards development and reconciliation following the end of the 3 decade long conflict.
The US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday on a two day official visit during which he called on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera.
Ambassador Shannon was accompanied by the Deputy Assistant Secretary for South Asia Manpreet Singh Anand.
