Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman Rumi Marzook stated that tests regarding Kinderjoy chocolates are currently being conducted to determine if they are safe to eat.
Kinderjoy is imported from India at a cost of 35 rupees and sold here for 150. Kinderjoy has become very popular amongst young children.
The chocolate alongside a few other Biscuits and Chewing gums are said to be imported to the country illegally. It is a requirement by the consumer act that all sweets brought into the country must have the address of the manufacturer or agent importing it in to the country. Kinderjoy and the other biscuits and gums do not contain any such address.
The police have seized a large amount of Kinderjoy from raiding over 30 shops in the Fort and Pettah area.
