The government says electricity and water tariffs will not be included in the proposed Value Added Tax or VAT amendment.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing State Minister of Finance, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene said that Electricity and Medicines are exempted from VAT increase. The discussion on not to increase 4% on water is being going on , he said.
State Minister Abeywardene stressed the move was not decided based on a request by the IMF or the World Bank.
