Expect Power Supply Breakdown in Colombo

The Jathika Sewaka Sangamaya ,Secretary of the Ceylon Electricity Board ,Ranjan Jayalal said maintenance of a cable supplying electricity to two sub stations has been suspended.

Hence, there is a strong possibility of an impending breakdown in the power supply in and around Colombo for a few months.

Jayalal said only one cable supplies electricity to Colombo at present and a malfunction in this cable could result in a sudden power outage in Colombo.

The CEB Jathika Sewaka Sangamaya urged authorities to address the issue.

Further he said some of the cables are not of required standards. Meanwhile Deputy Minister of Power and Energy Ajith P Perera says issues in electricity supply to Colombo persist.

The Deputy Minister said these were caused by the Ceylon Electricity Board not attending to necessary maintenance and repair work in the network.

However Minister Perera said prompt measures will be taken to complete necessary renovations within three months.
