The proposal made by the CEB to purchase 55 Megawatts electricity from private sector on an urgent basis was rejected by the Public Utility Commission.
In rejecting the proposal the Commission said that the proposal was not in accordance with the Authority Granted by the Cabinet. Further generating electricity at low cost was ignored. Proposal includes 20 megawatts over what was approved by the Cabinet. In addition the proposal does not justify urgent purchase of electricity. It said that recently 100 megawatts electricity was added to the National Grid. Water based electricity generating stations are in operation. Difficulties faced in distribution cannot be taken as urgent requirement. However the CEB should exploit obtaining electricity at low cost, it concluded.
