Minister of Labour, John Senevirate has made a request to the Government to declare May 2 nd as a Public Holiday. He requested that this leave be extended to private sector except essential services. As the May Day fell on Sunday and Trade Unions made a strong plea to declare May 2 nd as a holiday, he made this request.
However, Minister of Public Administration and Local Government, Wajira Abeyawardena said that May 2 nd , Monday is a working day and not declared as a holiday.
