Private bus operators Union president, Gamunu Wijeratne said that they have decided to increase the bus fares as from 15th July 2016. With the increase in VAT introduced as from 2nd may , prices of bus spare parts have gone up. Hence, bus operators face difficulties . As per National Bus Fare Increase Policy, bus fares cannot be increased upto 14th July 2016. Hence, increase will be implemented as from 15th July 2016.
However, he cannot decide bus fare increase on his own. It has to be approved by relevant State Institutions.
