Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D. M. Swaminathan has submitted a cabinet paper to settle 400 displaced families in KKS cement factory land.
The cabinet has approved to acquire 161 acres of land (65 hectares) belongs to KKS cement factory and settle 400 displaced families .
As at the end of March 2016, 251, 000 displaced people were resettled. However, 14000 families are yet to be re settled in North and East. Out of these families, 11000 families are living in Jaffna district . Currently in Jaffna district, 1109 families are in 21 welfare centers in Tellipalai Divisional Secretariat to be resettled. This step is taken to resettle them . Once KKS cement cooperation’s land acquisition is completed, the Government will take immediate steps to resettle them.
