The Right to Information Bill will be tabled in Parliament for the second reading today.
The bill is expected to grant the public the opportunity to receive important information pertaining to the state service which is not disclosed to the public.
The Government tabled the bill in Parliament fulfilling its pledges declared in their election manifesto last year.
The Minister of Mass Media and Parliamentary Reforms Gayantha Karunathileke issuing a statement said good governance will be established with approval of the bill.
The Minster said the public will gain freedom of information through the bill.
The Minister said Sri Lanka will be the 7th country in the world to ratify the Right to Information Bill.
The provision of maximum information, provision of both anticipated and unforeseen information and the reduced price of information will be key areas addressed through the bill.
The statement added the bill would be extremely beneficial to the public.
Minister Gayantha Karunathileke, said the government expects the cooperation of both the members of the government and the opposition to approve the bill.
