Dr. Coomaraswamy Assumes duty as the Governor of Central Bank Today

Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, who was appointed as  the new Central Bank Governor  by the President today  will  assume duties  toda
He is replacing  former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who alleged to have involved in treasury bond scam investigated by the COPE with the assistance of the Auditor General. In the meantime his contract of employment expired  on 30th June 2016..
Dr. Coomaraswamy who was born in 1950, pursued his education at Colombo Royal College and Harrow College in England.
He holds a first class honours degree from the Cambridge University and obtained his PhD from the Sussex University. He is the son of Sellapah Coomarasamy, a Civil Servant.
Dr. Indrajith Coomarasamy served in the  economic research statistics and Bank Supervision until 1989.
He also served in the Ministry of Finance and Planning from 1981 to 1989.
Later he served as the Director of Economic Affairs at the Commonwealth Secretariat from 1990 to 2008.
