Special Petition Requesting Bail Submitted by Former DIG Anura Senanayake

A special petition requesting bail was submitted yesterday (11) to the Colombo High Court by former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Anura Senanayake, who is in remand custody, since there was no evidence that he had either committed or was involved in the murder of Rugby Player Wasim Thajudeen.
Colombo Additional Magistrate, Nishantha Peiris had stated that bail was not being granted since the incident was connected to an incident of Thajudeen murder, Anura Senanayake informed the Colombo High Court in his application for bail that, he was not connected in any way to the death of Thajudeen or involved in the murder in any manner. Therefore, Senanayake who was taken into custody and remanded, requested the Colombo High Court to grant him bail since there was no evidence at all available.
The suspect Anura Senanayake, who was taken into custody on 23 June, based on accusations including being involved in a conspiracy in connection with the Thajudeen murder and covering up relevant information, has been remanded until the 20th of this month.
The respondents named in the bail petition filed by Anura Senanayake, through his lawyer, Attorney-at-Law Nandana Perera, in the Colombo High Court, under No. 312/2016, are the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General. The Petitioner’s party has also requested the High Court to call up the relevant bail petition on 18th July in order to confirm facts.
