Minuwangoda Chief Magistrate and District Judge, I. M. Dhammika Elangasinghe has been suspended, by the Judicial Services Commission, with effect from 23 July.
Investigating Officers of the Commission had gone to Minuwangoda Court, on 22 July, following several complaints received by the Judicial Services Commission. They held an investigation subsequent to which they had taken away some Case Books and suspended the Magistrate.
The investigating officers had held discussions with the Minuwangoda Court staff as well and had especially discussed the problems they were facing.
Further sources said that several casebooks, at the Court, which were required during investigations, had been taken over by the investigating officers of the Judicial Services Commission. After being suspended from service, the former Magistrate had left the official residence on 23 July.
