Minister of sports Dayasiri Jayasekara said that he twice raised the matter of amending the sports act with IOC officials while in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He accused his predecessors in the past 10 years of not having fulfilled their promises to the NOC to resolve issues in the sports act. He warned possible loss of IOC membership, if we don’t amend the sports act, which will be amended and gazetted by September, says sports minister.
Jayasekara said the agreement was reached at a meeting he had yesterday (17) with NOC chief Hemasiri Fernando, deputy solicitor general Sumathi Dharmawardena and other officials.
