Office of Missing Persons Bill to Become a Law Today

The Council passed a resolution on Sri Lanka in October 2015 calling for a credible investigation into the allegations of human rights violations by both parties during the conflict with the LTTE.
The establishment of the Missing Persons Office was one of the pledges of the government to the United Nations Human Rights Council.
The Bill for the establishment of the Office of Missing Persons was approved with amendments in Parliament on the 11th of this month.
Accordingly Deputy General Secretary of Parliament,  Neil Iddawela said the Speaker will ratify the bill today(23) and will subsequently become a law.
In the meantime the Speaker’s media division said the  bill was signed at the Speaker’s office at the Parliamentary Complex a short while ago.
