2016 Award for Excellence in Public Health to President Maithripala Sirisena

The WHO said the annual Award has been established to recognize outstanding leadership and exceptional achievements in public health by individuals.
The Award of Excellence was presented by Regional Director of WHO Poonam Khetrapal Singh at a function held at the President’s House in Colombo last evening.
The World Health Organization has awarded President Maithripala Sirisena with the 2016 Award for Excellence in Public Health.
The WHO said President Sirisena was presented with the award for his exceptional contributions to strengthening the Health services in Sri Lanka especially in Tobacco control, drugs regulation, health of migrants and control of kidney disease.
