Tamil Progressive Front supports salary increase demand demonstrations carried out by estate workers . Tamil Progressive Front led by Mano Ganeshan held a press conference yesterday(4), he said that estate workers carry out their struggle on their own demanding an increase Rs 1000 per day.
Tamil progressive Front decided to stage a demonstration in Talavakele tomorrow(6) demanding Rs 1000 increase. As from 1992 estate workers salary increase was determined through joint agreement . However Tamil Progressive Front is not accepting this joint agreement method . If this joint agreement provides relief to the people , we don’t want to be an obstacle to it. Estate trade unions promised to get Rs 1000 increase for estate workers but failed.
Joint agreement has lapsed in March 2015, now 20 months has passed still no agreement reached. We fought and obtained Rs 2, 500 interim allowance to estate workers. But it is not a permanent solution. We thought interim payment for 2 months to resolve salary increase issue within that period. But no solution is found.
They invited all estate trade unions and interested parties to participate in tomorrow’s demonstration ignoring other differences, he concluded.
