Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is currently on a visit to India, Where he met India’s Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nithin Gadhkar and held bilateral talks at the Taj Palace hotel in New Delhi on Wednesday. During this talk Ranil said the Government has planned a four lane highway network linking Jaffna and Mannar, Mannar, Kurunegala and Colombo and Mannar, Vavuniya and Trincomalee.
The Indian Minister said India could provide assistance towards the construction of such a highway network as it possessed the technology necessary to build such highways in a strong and durable manner. The Indian Minister said the Indian technology was much cheaper compared to that of other countries.
