Addressing an event held in Hambantota President Maithripala Sirisena said that he was elected as the Head of State to ensure the independence of all citizens in the country.
President rejected all allegations levelled against the government by the opposition.
He said the government will not divide the country but build a united Sri Lanka for all.
The Head of State noted that the consensus government, have a set of goals and are committed to work for the country and the people.
President added the two main political parties agreed to work together for the betterment of the country and said the country’s best interest take precedence over party politics.
President further said , “We have been accused by the opposition continuously. They claim we are attempting to separate and divide the country, attempting to remove the provisions of Buddhism given in the constitution, destabilising the military and plans to forfeit the country to the United States and India.”
However President assured to safeguard the country saying the government is work towards it.
In conclusion, President Sirisena stressed that he wants to strengthen the country even further.
