Budget 2017 to be Discussed in Public Finance Committee

The Committee on Public Finance was set up in December last year, on the initiative of the Prime Minister, to strengthen Parliament control over public finance.
The 12 member Committee comprises of members of both sides of the House. It is expected to keep  checks  on the implementation of the Budget proposals next year.
The Committee on Public Finance, headed by TNA MP M. A. Sumanthiran will take the Budget 2017 up for discussion after the Bill is presented to Parliament this Thursday 20th October 2016, a member of the Committee
He said the Committee would review each budget allocation and the overall Budget proposals  and make recommendations and observations. The committee will submit it’s report before moving the Budget 2017 for debate on November 10.
It is the first time an annual Budget is referred to this oversight committee, prior to its second reading.
It will assess whether the Government is meeting the revenue and other fiscal targets as stipulated in the Budget.
