The COPE met at the parliamentary complex to discuss final amendments relating to the controversial Central Bank Bond issue.
COPE Chairman MP Sunil Handunnetti reported to have left the committee meeting held in Parliament last Monday (24).
Deputy Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena commenting on the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) Chairman MP Sunil Handunnetti leaving the committee said, he did not have to walk out, or fear anything. “We trust MP Handunhetti. He did not have to leave,” the Deputy Minister said during a press briefing held yesterday (25) at the Ministry of Finance.
He further added that when the COPE committee report is revealed, and presented to the Parliament, everyone will have no choice but to accept the results. “We might want to punish wrongdoers immediately; however, there is a law in this country. There is a certain procedure to be taken, and we will follow it,” he added.
